Objective: Plan and sew a single saleable item that chains together zipper insertion, seam finishing, and topstitching in the correct order on the Janome MC6650.
Making sellable items means running several techniques back-to-back smoothly rather than practicing them in isolation. The key is sequencing: do steps that need a special foot together to minimize foot changes, and work from the inside out so earlier seams stay accessible. On the MC6650, use the memorized settings and the needle up/down button (set needle-down for pivoting) to keep control through transitions. A reliable order for most lined, zippered items is: 1) finish any raw edges that will be hidden later using the overcast or zigzag stitch and overcast foot, 2) install the zipper first while panels are flat and easy to handle, switching to the zipper foot E and moving the needle position if needed, 3) return to the standard foot A and straight stitch to join panels, 4) finish with topstitching at a consistent 3-3.5mm length, using the edge guide or a quilting guide bar for even spacing. Lower the feed dogs only if free-motion is required; otherwise keep them up. Press seams at each major stage rather than at the end, because pressing after assembly is far harder. Change thread tension back to auto between decorative and construction steps so topstitching looks crisp.
Example: Lined zip pouch worked in sequence: Cut two outer and two lining rectangles. With foot E, sew the zipper between one outer and one lining piece, repeat for the other side, then topstitch alongside the zipper teeth at 3mm with foot A. Open the zipper halfway (critical so you can turn it later). Place outers right-sides together and linings right-sides together, pin, and straight stitch around all four sides with foot A, leaving a 7cm turning gap in the lining bottom. Clip corners, turn right side out through the gap, push corners out, press, then edge-stitch the lining gap closed. Total foot changes: one (E to A), done in under a minute.
